FAQ
Tarot Reading and Dreams questions
The Tarot
Can Tarot cards foretell the future?
The Tarot will give you a very keen sense of the probabilities inherent in a situation but the way in which things turn out are, in the final analysis, up to you. It depends how well you adapt to the ever changing conditions that your reading reflects. The reading will give you a snapshot of what is going on and aspects which have been invisible to your ego.
It is a valuable form of meditation on the present moment to offer insight and advice. It reflects probabilities and is not a form of fortune telling.
How often do I need a reading?
As often as you feel the need for insight or advice. However unless you take heed of the advice revealed in a reading, there is little point in repeating the reading as it will merely reveal the same information! You need to act on the guidance offered
Do you have to be psychic to read the Tarot?
Unfortunately today the word 'psychic' is overused and misunderstood. The word comes from the Greek 'psyche' which means the soul. Quite simply in its truest form it is 'of the soul', the ability to read the needs and desires of the soul rather than the ego.
How long does a reading take?
Usually about 30 to 40 minutes depending on the questions asked and the information revealed.
'Death' and 'The Devil'
These cards often put the fear of God into the person having the reading! Death rarely means physical death and its usual interpretation is an opportunity for change and transformation. The Devil concerns the immediate negatives that the reader or someone close to them is unwilling or unable to face.
Fate or Free will?
Because a card denotes a certain influence or event it does not always mean that the influence cannot be altered. Even as we begin to talk about the future we begin to think of it in a freer way and thus it can be modified or altered. In short the future is not carved in tablets of stone.
Does a Tarot deck have to be given to me before I can work with it?
No, this is a myth.
Why do some people complain that the Tarot is evil?
Some religious people still carry the inheritance of the Catholic church from the past Centuries. The Catholic Church condemned anything that was not in line with their beliefs. It still has plenty to do with intolerance and power. The Tarot has nothing to do with the Devil and is one of the many enlightening tools by which many people have expressed their own, and often very different beliefs. Indeed our modern paying cards have their origins in the Tarot. Neither is the Tarot part of witchcraft although Tarot cards were often used by gypsies who helped in keeping the tradition of card reading alive.

Dreams
What are dreams?
Put very simply it is the end result of your brain, mind and spirit reviewing and analysing long term, short term and spirit memory whilst resting. It examines emotions, thoughts, ideas, actions and interactions. It has a background of your life trends, and philosophy to work with. Your mind is also processing spiritual data, beliefs and information received during waking hours. It is all put together as a form of visual screenplay of sight, sound, emotion and symbolism and the end result is what we call a dream!!
How can I remember my dreams?
Many of us have instant recall when we awake but the glimpse is momentary and vanishes like a puff of smoke! The best advice is to put a notebook and pencil by the bed and to write down what you can remember as soon as you awake. Record everything from emotions to colours no matter how unimportant you think they are. You will often find that you will have some recall during the next day, write these down as well.
Also, try to relax before you go to sleep and pay attention to the main issues in your mind. Try asking to remember your dreams? It works!
Can dream dictionaries help?
When interpreting the symbols in your dreams you need to learn your own inner language as well as traditional meanings found in collective symbolism. Each dream is like an original work of art.
Therefore, for example, the symbolism of a whale to one person may mean something completely different to another person. Dream dictionaries can only given common interpretations of symbols and should be approached with caution.
I keep having the same dream - what does this mean?
A recurring dream means that your subconscious is trying to send you a message. The dream will keep recurring until you take heed of its message and understand its meaning. Unravelling the meaning behind the dream can sometimes help resolve an issue that the dreamer has been struggling with for years.
Is it normal to have nightmares?
Nightmares are often caused by stress, trauma, emotional difficulties, drugs or medication, or illness. However some nightmares can be unrelated to waking lives. These dreams need to be explored!
It is true that if you dream you die or that you hit the bottom in a falling dream you will in fact die in your sleep?
No! Many people have dreamed these dreams and lived to tell the tale! You should explore these images in the dreams in the same way as any other dream.
Can dreams predict the future?
There are many examples of dreams which seem to predict future events. Some may have been due to coincidence or faulty memory. However a few laboratory studies have been conducted of predictive or clairvoyant dreams. See the dream pages for examples.
Is it possible to control dreams?
You can often influence these by giving yourself pre-sleep suggestions. However some professionals question the advisability of trying to control your dreams but encourage learning to enjoy and understand them instead.
