The 78 card deck is divided into two main groups:

• the major arcana consisting of 22 consecutively numbered cards, such as The Lovers, The Fool or the World
• the minor arcana which are arranged into a series of four suits. Each suit displays a common symbol, - Wand, Pentacle, Cup or Sword.

Almost everyone is familiar with the minor arcana, because our current playing cards on based on it. The symbols have now become Clubs, Spades, Hearts and Diamonds. However only The Fool of the major arcana has 'survived'. He became the Joker. The other 21 cards disappeared from the card games commonly played today.

The seventy eight symbols are portraitures and archetypes of inner and outer experience prevalent within human experience.
